Productivity

Posted on Sep 18, 2006 by Chung-hong Chan

I did the following to improve my productivity

1. I am not satisfied with RSS/G-mail Combo. It is a massive waste of time to check the RSS reader then click the link to the GMail website. For the first time ever, I used a mail client to check my GMail.
2. I find that Instant Messenger is a great distractor. However, it is good for IM to be a instant message box instead of what it is supposed to be.
3. I tended to forget where my reference is. For online reference, I used to clipped it in del.icio.us but it doesn't work as expected. After reading GTD, I use TextEdit.app a lot to have of local copy of the textual material from the web. It is quicker to search the refined selection of references in my harddisk by spotlight then searching sea of informations by Google.
4. 15 minutes rule works puuurrrrrfectly for me.

As you all know, I am a chronic procrastinator. In the GTD book, Dave Allen (the author) said our brain only work like RAM. We need something to solidify our memory, e.g. write all the stuff in your head down on the dead tree.
